Self Care Post of the Week – Meditation

*I want to start these self care posts by saying that I’m not a professional. I’m just someone who suffers from both anxiety and depression. These are all things that I personally do that help me either physically, mentally or both. What works for me may not work for you – so take these ideas as a stepping stone to figure out what resonates with and helps you. Something I DO know is the more consistent I am in focusing on various self care things for myself, the better I feel. As I write these, they will be added to the Self Care page so they can be easily found and not jumbled in with all the blog posts.

When I first started using meditation, I was using it to help me fall asleep. I’d read somewhere to try it and along with my sleep routine, it helped me relax enough to fall asleep some nights. My favorite ones for sleep are guided body scans. I love how meditation help me stop, pause and just focus on myself for a little bit.

There are all kinds of places you can find free guided meditations to try:
-YouTube
-apps (I like the Insight Timer one)
-Spotify
-podcasts

For the longest time I only did those body scan ones, but I’ve recently started trying out other ones and doing them at different times of the day and not just for sleep. I’ve enjoyed some morning ones for starting the day with positivity and mid day ones for grounding myself. There are so many different ones you can find them for. These are just suggestions off the top of my head:
-body scans
-anxiety
-insomnia
-depression
-self esteem
-self confidence
-relaxation
-feeling stuck
-breath awareness
-affirmations
-manifestation
-peace and calming
-feeling overwhelmed
-being present
-grounding

There are so many more. If you do a search for anything you’re dealing with, chances are you’re going to find a meditation to help guide you through it. I’ve now started doing some meditation without it being guided too. Sometimes just taking the time to stop, focus on my breathing while repeating a mantra/phrase/sentence that’s speaking to me at that time.

What’s something pressing you lately that you’d search to try? Give it a quick search and see what comes up for you.

Until next time, xoxo
