*I want to start these self care posts by saying that I’m not a professional. I’m just someone who suffers from both anxiety and depression. These are all things that I personally do that help me either physically, mentally or both. What works for me may not work for you – so take these ideas as a stepping stone to figure out what resonates with and helps you. Something I DO know is the more consistent I am in focusing on various self care things for myself, the better I feel. As I write these, they will be added to the Self Care page so they can be easily found and not jumbled in with all the blog posts.
Do you hydrate enough? Yep, I’m talking about water. There are so many benefits to making sure you’re drinking enough water. It helps your digestion and staying regular, your organs, tissues and joints need it, it helps regulate blood pressure and delivers oxygen throughout your body and so much more. I usually end up drinking 4-6 cups of water a day. I try to hit 8, but don’t usually get there. The days I only drink closer to 2, I can really feel it, especially the next morning – I feel so groggy and get bad headaches.
I keep re-usable water bottles in my bag, living room and bedroom. That way it’s always easy, accessible and ready to grab. Sometimes I’ll add a little squeeze of lemon if I want some flavour to it. Lately I’ve been on a big ice kick. I’ve got a metal thermos cup that I’ll fill to the brim with ice so the water stays super cold all day. As I drink it, I’ll keep filling it up with those re-useable bottles I keep around the house. When I want something warm and comforting I’ll sometimes do the lemon water, but warmed up and with a little honey added – so comforting!
So take this as your reminder to hydrate. Go fill your bottle with water. Take a sip or two. Keep it handy so it’s convenient.
Until next time, xoxo
